Whether you’ve been to a Civil War reenactment before or will be coming for the first time, we welcome you and hope you have a once in a lifetime experience.
The 150th Commemoration and Reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg will offer large-scale historically accurate battles, speakers, period music, and vendors June 27-30, 2013 at the Bushey Farm, 1845 Pumping Station Road, in Gettysburg.
Many people from all walks of life near and far are making plans to attend. Here are some answers to Frequently Asked Questions we hope will help people to plan and prepare for an incredible experience.
Question: When are spectators welcome to come to the site?
Answer: Spectators are welcome 9am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday, June 29th and 30th. Advance tickets are now available for purchase. We recommend you pre-purchase your "print at home" ticket with the unique bar code so you can avoid long lines at the gate. Tickets will also be available at the gate. Question: What are the ticket prices?
Answer: Tickets are $10 per person per day and 12 and under free. Parking is free.
Question: When is the best time to come?
Answer: Please view our Schedule of Events to plan your visit and make sure you’re able to make the most of your experience. http://www.bluegraygettysburg.com/schedule-of-events.html
We recommend you leave plenty of extra time to get to the site. Shuttles will be available from the parking areas. Traffic on the local roads may be heavy, so plan accordingly.
Question: Where is the event?
Answer: The event is at 1845 Pumping Station Road. This is about 2 miles southwest of the Gettysburg National Military Park. It is not a part of the park. As you near the site, you’ll be directed into parking area. For some lots, you will be able to take a footbridge from the parking area to the site. For other lots, you will be able to take a shuttle from the parking area to the site.
Question: Where on the site can spectators visit?
Answer: Spectators are welcome to visit the activities, sutler, and vendor areas near the main entrance, and the main viewing area for spectators is just beyond the vendor area. Spectators are also welcome to visit the civilian-only Town of Gettysburg camp, Borough of Fairfield camp, and other Federal and Confederate camps during non-battle hours. You are welcome to ask questions and talk to reenactors.
Question: Where are the activities?
Answer: The main activities tent in the sutler/vendor area offers historical talks, clothing demonstrations, book signing, a Ladies Tea and Fashion Show, a children’s program, and other activities.
Question: How do I know what is going on with the battles? Is there a battle map?
Answer: The event will not offer a loudspeaker narration for the battles. Programs for the event are available at the ticket gate and provide you with the schedule of events, battle maps, site maps, historical background, battle summaries, and other valuable information. Programs are $5.
Question: What should I bring?
Answer: It’s best to travel light so you can move around the site comfortably. However, you are welcome to bring chairs and umbrellas to use in the spectator area. We ask you take the umbrellas down as the battle starts so others can see. Bring sunscreen and wear shoes comfortable for a day of standing and walking. Food and beverages are available for purchase on site. You may bring your own food and drink items. Please be advised that all large bags are subject to visual inspection. By entering the site with a bag of any sort, you are consenting to security making a visual inspection of it. If you would rather not allow security to inspect, please leave the bags in your cars. We also ask spectators not bring weapons to the site.
Question: Is there a shuttle from downtown Gettysburg to the site?
Answer: Shuttle service to and from Gettysburg is being finalized. When we have details on schedules and cost, we will post that on the website www.bluegraygettysburg.com.
Question: Is the site handicapped accessible?
Answer: The ground is a farm field. It is mowed, but may be uneven. Use your own judgment about what the handicapped person can handle. The distance from the entrance to the spectator area is about ¼ mile. There are handicapped portajohns spaced evenly through the vendor and spectator areas. Due to the volume of traffic expected, there will not be a separate handicapped drop off area. Handicapped parking is available in the parking areas. Those with needs will have to show the parking attendant their handicap placard so that they can be directed to the right area. We will have courtesy shuttles that will help to transport those with walking disabilities as best we can. Please be courteous and allow those with the most need first opportunity to use the carts.
Question: What do I do if I have an emergency?
Answer: The spectator area will have a first aid tent and a larger EMS tent will be placed in the sutler/vendor area near the activities tent. You can always ask event staff or security for assistance.
