Federal Command General Orders
GENERAL ORDERS, HEADQUARTERS ARMY OF THE POTOMAC
No. 3
Camp near Fairfax Station, Va., June 16, 1863.
The following instructions from the General-in-Chief are published for the information of all concerned.
I. Each division will supply Army guard mount during the upcoming Gettysburg campaign for one day.
a. Guard mount will consist of six privates, one noncommissioned officer, and one company grade officer, in light marching order.
b. Guard detail will report to the Officer of the Day at AOP headquarters and be supervised by the Officer of the Day.
c. Frequency of rotation will be at the discretion of division commanders.
II. Guard posts will be the two camp entrances from Bullfrog Road (Post #2 is the main entrance and Post #3 is the artillery camp entrance)
and AoP headquarters (Post #1).
III. Schedule:
a. Friday, June 28, noon to midnight: Crowder’s Division
b. Saturday, June 29, 7 a.m. to midnight: Markijohn’s Division
c. Sunday, June 29, 7 a.m. to deployment for Pickett’s Charge: Washburn’s Division
IV. Instructions for sentinels at Posts #2 and #3 (two sentinels at each post, for a total of four):
a. Allow no vehicles to enter camp except for event vehicles and emergency vehicles.
b. Allow no vehicles to park or stop on Bullfrog Road for any reason.
c. Allow no reenactors, military or civilian, to walk on Bullfrog Road.
V. Instructions for sentinel at Post #1:
a. Challenge all period-dressed civilians seeking to enter the headquarters area.
b. Extend military courtesies to officers seeking to enter the headquarters area.
c. Present a salute under arms to all visitors and passers-by in modern garb.
VI. Division commanders will be responsible for the faithful execution of this order.

Camp near Banks Ford, Va., June 12, 1863.
The following instructions from the General-in-Chief are published for the information of all concerned.
I. Anyone detailed as an “ice angel”, water carrier, or in any capacity in the upcoming campaign must be uniformed while taking part in battle scenarios.
II. Division commanders will be responsible for the faithful distribution of this order through their commands.
III. Division, brigade and battalion commanders will be responsible for the faithful execution of this order.

GENERAL ORDERS, HEADQUARTERS ARMY OF THE POTOMAC

Camp near Falmouth, Va., February 7, 1863.
The following instructions from the General-in-Chief are published for the information of all concerned.
I. All leaves are cancelled.
II. Army Commander Robert Minton will wear two stars during the upcoming summer campaign in Pennsylvania.
III. By order of the General-in-Chief, division commanders in the Army of the Potomac in that campaign will wear one (1) star and brigade commanders will wear the rank of senior colonels.
IV. Division commanders will be responsible for the faithful and prompt execution of orders regarding proper rank insignia within their respective commands.
